Burna Boy Celebrates ”African Giant Album” One-Year Anniversary



The African Giant Album is a year already!
Yesterday, July 26th, 2020, made it a year since Burna Boy’s 4th studio album “African Giant” was released by Spaceship Entertainment, Atlantic Records and Warner Music. The 19-track album which contributed largely to Burna Boy’s international success in 2019, also earned him his first Grammy nomination and has thus far garnered close to a billion streams on all music platforms



The Afro-fusion artiste himself made the announcement via his Instagram page:

The African Giant Album One Year Later
The African Giant album is a mixture of Afrobeats, dancehall, pop, and hip hop. It was produced primarily by Kel P, along with production from Benjamin Zill, Dre Skull, and Skrillex, among others. The album features guest appearances from Jorja Smith, Jeremih, Damian Marley, and Future, amongst others.

The African Giant album was supported by eight singles, including “On the Low”, which won Viewers’ Choice at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, “Killin Dem”, which won Song of the Year at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, among other awards; and “Anybody”, which Burna Boy performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.



The album received generally favorable reviews from music critics and it was featured by several music publications; including Billboard, Complex, and Pitchfork.

The ”African Giant” equally won Album of the Year at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards and was nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. It was supported by the African Giant Returns tour, which commenced in Toronto in August 2019.

In 2019, African Giant also made Spotify history by becoming the first African Album to hit 200 million streams.
