Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has expressed surprise after reportedly encountering counter-protesters during a demonstration against rising insecurity and mass abductions across the country.
Speaking after the protest held in Lagos, Falz said he found it troubling that some individuals chose to oppose a movement aimed at drawing attention to worsening security challenges and the continued captivity of abducted Nigerians.
According to the rapper, insecurity remains a national crisis that should concern every citizen regardless of political affiliation. He stressed that the issue affects families across the country and should not be viewed through a partisan lens.
Falz specifically referenced the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, noting that many of the victims are yet to be rescued. He urged Nigerians to remain focused on demanding action from authorities rather than allowing political divisions to distract from the gravity of the situation.
The rapper also highlighted reports of deadly attacks and mass abductions in parts of the country. He cited an incident in Woro community, Kwara State, where insurgents reportedly carried out a prolonged attack in February, resulting in numerous deaths and the abduction of many residents who remain in captivity.
Expressing concern over the vulnerability of communities nationwide, Falz warned that no family is immune to the threat posed by insecurity if urgent and effective measures are not taken.
“We stepped out yesterday to protest worsening levels of insecurity and mass abductions around the country. What was wild to see was that Tinubu and his supporters had rented a crowd of counter-protesters, the majority of whom were women,” he said.
He added, “The children that were taken from schools in Oyo State still have not been found. It could be your children tomorrow. This is the end of us if we allow this to continue.”
