Former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential candidate Peter Obi has praised music star Davido for using his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup countdown concert to draw attention to Nigeria’s security challenges and the plight of abducted schoolchildren.
Davido appeared at the event wearing a customised leather jacket featuring the names of pupils and teachers recently abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The jacket also carried the message: “BRING THEM HOME.”
The singer’s outfit quickly gained attention online as many interpreted it as a call for awareness and action over the continued captivity of the victims.
Reacting in a statement shared on his official X account, Obi commended Davido for using his international platform to spotlight an issue affecting many Nigerians.
According to Obi, Davido’s gesture went beyond entertainment and helped bring global attention to Nigeria’s security concerns.
Obi also reflected on Nigeria’s absence from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stating that the country’s challenge is not a lack of talent but poor political leadership and the failure to create an environment that supports growth and development.
The development has sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians praising Davido’s advocacy while others continue discussing the country’s security situation and the role of public figures in raising awareness.
