A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after claiming that many individuals involved in internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo boys,” are currently facing serious financial difficulties.
In a video making the rounds on social media, the man alleged that a large number of suspected fraudsters who once lived extravagant lifestyles can no longer afford to maintain their standard of living.
According to him, many of them are reportedly struggling to renew their house rents despite previously paying as much as ₦3 million annually for accommodation.
He further claimed that several of these individuals have resorted to selling their personal belongings at significantly reduced prices in order to raise money.
Sharing an example, the man said he recently purchased a large television from one such individual for ₦700,000. According to him, the television was originally bought for over ₦2.3 million.
The man used the incident to support his claim that the fortunes of many people allegedly involved in online fraud have taken a downward turn.
In his words:
“95% of Yahoo boys in Asaba, Delta State, and several other states in Nigeria who are paying about ₦3 million as yearly house rent can no longer renew their rent. All of them don dey sell their things as second hand. I just bought a very big television from one of them. He bought it for over ₦2.3 million, but I bought it for ₦700,000.”
His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users agreeing with his observations, while others questioned the accuracy of his claims and the basis for his conclusions.
