“They Wanted My Dad, Not Me” — DJ Cuppy Opens Up on Love and Relationships

Nigerian disc jockey and media personality DJ Cuppy has stirred conversations online after revealing why she believes marrying a Nigerian may no longer be an option for her.

Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, the entertainer reflected on her dating experiences and the challenges she has faced in finding a genuine partner.

According to DJ Cuppy, one particular experience deeply affected her perspective on relationships. She recounted dating someone who seemed more interested in meeting her billionaire father than getting to know her personally.

The daughter of businessman Femi Otedola explained that her family background and public status often become the centre of attention in her relationships, making it difficult to know whether people truly like her for who she is.

Sharing her thoughts, she said:

“I can never marry a Nigerian. It’s impossible. The last one I dated kept asking when he could meet my dad. I didn’t even think they liked me. My dad doesn’t even care who I marry; he just wants me to get married. That’s why I’m so happy for Temi and Eazi.”

Her comments quickly sparked reactions across social media, with many people debating whether personal experiences should shape broader views about relationships and marriage.

This is not the first time DJ Cuppy has spoken publicly about her search for love. Following her failed engagement to British boxer Ryan Taylor, she has openly discussed her hopes of finding the right life partner and the disappointments she has experienced while dating.

Her latest remarks have once again put her love life in the spotlight, with supporters expressing understanding while critics questioned her conclusion.
