“‘Being Single Is Not a Choice’ — Nigerian Woman Sparks Debate Over Love, Loneliness and Relationship Pressure”

A Nigerian woman has stirred widespread reactions on social media after openly expressing her frustration about being single and her desire for a romantic relationship.

In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the lady questioned the common belief that being single is a personal choice, arguing that many people who claim to be content are actually masking their true feelings.

“Being single is not a choice, being single is not a choice. I no see who go date me, na wetin make most of us dey pretend,” she said, speaking candidly about her struggles with dating.

She went on to say that although society often encourages self-love and emotional independence, many people still quietly struggle with loneliness and the desire for companionship.

According to her, public advice such as “your happiness doesn’t revolve around a man” does not always reflect reality, insisting that romantic relationships play a significant role in many people’s emotional fulfillment.

“Your happiness doesn’t revolve around a man… go and heal o. Apart from self-love, happiness revolves around a man, and that’s the truth,” she added.

Her final remarks, where she admitted she is tired of being alone and genuinely wants a partner, sparked even more debate online.

While some users supported her honesty and agreed that loneliness is often downplayed, others argued that happiness should be self-sustained and not dependent on being in a relationship.
