Heartbreaking Loss: Thailand’s Princess Bajrakitiyabha Dies at 47 After Nearly Four Years in Coma


Tributes have continued to pour in following the death of Thailand’s beloved Princess Bajrakitiyabha, who passed away at the age of 47 after spending nearly four years in a coma.


According to reports, the princess had been hospitalized since December 2022 after collapsing due to a heart-related condition while training her dogs. Despite receiving extensive medical care, she remained unconscious until her passing.


Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of Thailand’s King Vajiralongkorn, was widely respected for her contributions to public service, diplomacy, and human rights advocacy. She served as Thailand’s ambassador to Austria between 2012 and 2014 and worked closely with the United Nations on issues relating to women’s rights, justice reform, and crime prevention.



Born into Thailand’s royal family, Princess Bajrakitiyabha pursued a distinguished academic career. She studied law at Thammasat University before earning a master’s degree in law from Cornell University in the United States. She later worked as a public prosecutor and became one of the most prominent and influential members of the Thai royal family.


In recognition of her efforts in promoting justice and human rights, she was appointed a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in 2017.


News of her death has sparked an outpouring of condolences from world leaders, diplomats, and members of the public, who have remembered her as a dedicated public servant and compassionate advocate for social causes.


Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the Thai royal family.
