“I Am Ready to Die” — Peter Obi’s Statement Sparks Reactions Online

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has stirred reactions online after reaffirming his commitment to Nigeria, stating that he is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the country if necessary.

Speaking during a public engagement, Obi emphasised that leadership demands courage, sacrifice, and a readiness to stand with the people during difficult times.

According to the former Anambra State governor, anyone seeking public office must be prepared to face challenges and put the interests of the nation above personal comfort.

Addressing the audience, Obi said:

“If you’re ready to lead, you must be ready to die. If you’re not ready to die, go home.”

His remarks quickly gained attention across social media, with supporters and critics offering different interpretations of his statement.

Speaking further on patriotism and national commitment, Obi stated that he has never pursued citizenship in another country despite opportunities that may have existed.

He added:

“Tomorrow, if I’m outside the country and there is war, I’ll come back. I’m a Nigerian. I’ve never had any reason to have any country’s passport. God created me a Nigerian and I’m ready to die here.”

His comments come amid ongoing conversations around migration, national identity, governance, and leadership in Nigeria.

The remarks have since generated widespread debate online, with many Nigerians discussing what patriotism, sacrifice, and leadership responsibility truly mean in the current climate.
