A Nigerian lady has shared the reason a man allegedly called off his traditional wedding after his fiancée received millions of naira from her ex-boyfriend.
The story, shared by X user @Toniatuslim, revealed that the incident happened shortly before the wedding ceremony.
According to the post, the bride received a ₦3 million credit alert from her former boyfriend, who reportedly lives abroad.
Her fiancé later asked about the source of the money and she explained that it was sent by her ex as a gift.
However, the explanation did not sit well with him.
According to the account, the man instructed his fiancée to return the money and cut off communication with her ex-boyfriend by blocking him.
The woman reportedly refused.
She argued that the money was only a gift and insisted there was nothing inappropriate about accepting it because she had not seen or been involved with her ex in years.
According to the post:
“The man ordered her to send the money back and also asked her to block the ex-boyfriend, but the lady refused. She said it was just a gift and besides, the ex is not in the country and she has not seen him in years.”
The disagreement reportedly escalated and eventually led the groom to call off the traditional wedding.
The story later triggered reactions online, with many users sharing different opinions about relationships, trust, boundaries, and communication before marriage.
One user commented:
“It’s not just about the money, it’s about boundaries, trust, and what each person considers disrespect.”
Another wrote:
“I don’t think he is angry about the gift, but it feels strange still talking to your ex to the extent of receiving money for your wedding.”
Others argued that the issue could have been resolved through mutual understanding and clearer communication.
The story continues to spark debate online over whether accepting expensive gifts from an ex while preparing for marriage crosses relationship boundaries.
