“Nigeria Will Never Be Run by Islam” — Ibiyeomie Speaks on Security, National Unity

Popular clergyman David Ibiyeomie has sparked discussions online following comments on Nigeria’s security challenges, national unity, and the role of religion in the country’s future.

Speaking during a recent sermon, Ibiyeomie dismissed claims that Nigeria could eventually become an Islamic state, arguing that the country’s ethnic and religious diversity makes such a development impossible.

According to the cleric, Nigerians from different regions and cultural backgrounds would not abandon their identities or religious beliefs, regardless of any perceived agenda.

He also addressed the nation’s security situation, expressing confidence in the capacity of the Nigerian military to tackle armed groups if provided with adequate support and decisive leadership. Ibiyeomie maintained that the armed forces possess the capability to effectively confront security threats across the country.

The pastor further questioned suggestions of relying on foreign security forces to address Nigeria’s internal security challenges, insisting that the country has the resources and manpower required to handle its own affairs.

His remarks come amid ongoing national conversations surrounding insecurity, terrorism, national cohesion, and the intersection of religion and politics in Nigeria.

In his words:

“All this agenda is aimed at making Nigeria an Islamic nation, and it can never happen. Are you telling me they will turn an Igbo man or a South-South man into a Muslim?

“If the Nigerian Army wants to wipe them off, they can do it in one day. And they have the power to do it. You bring Turkish army to come and protect Nigeria? Thank you. We’re not stupid.

“Nigeria will never be an Islamic nation. If they want it, they can take their part and go. But this country will never be run by Islam.”
