“Your Insult Shocked Me” — Reno Omokri Responds to Davido’s Online Mockery

Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri has responded after Afrobeats star Davido mocked him online over his explanation for not yet resuming diplomatic duties in Mexico.

The exchange began after Omokri stated in an interview that his delayed resumption was connected to ongoing activities surrounding the FIFA World Cup involving the United States and Mexico.

Reacting to Davido’s comments, Omokri shared screenshots of the singer’s post on Instagram and described the remarks as “feedback,” while expressing surprise at the tone of the response.

According to Omokri, he believes Davido’s reaction may have stemmed from his earlier criticism of the singer’s decision to wear a customised jacket bearing the names of abducted schoolchildren from Oyo State during a World Cup-related appearance.

In his response, Omokri wrote:

“Dear Mr. David Adeleke AKA Davido, thank you for your feedback. I was rather surprised by your response to my post. Most shocking is your insult.”

He added that Davido, as an international celebrity, should avoid using vulgar language publicly and argued that international platforms should not be used in ways that could amplify fear or unintentionally draw attention to criminal groups.

Omokri also referenced praise Davido received from Peter Obi over the performance, suggesting it may have influenced the singer’s response.

Drawing a comparison, Omokri pointed to IShowSpeed, saying the American content creator used the same global stage to promote Nigeria positively by wearing the country’s jersey and speaking well about the nation.

The exchange has since sparked reactions online, with supporters weighing in on whether global entertainment platforms should be used to spotlight national challenges or focus on country branding.
